About Your Appointment

  • All imaging appointments require a referral from a licensed professional.

  • Most imaging appointments take between 10 and 30 minutes.

  • No special preparation is needed - arrive 10 mins prior to your appointment.

  • Let the radiographer know if you are or might be pregnant.

  • For your safety and the best imaging result we ask that you remove head and neck jewelry, glasses and hearing aids prior to your appointment.

  • During your appointment you will be required to sit or stand in a normal position with your chin resting on a chin support and be required to keep very still for 10 - 20 seconds. If you require additional assistance, please let us know prior to your appointment.

  • You may be asked to remove dentures or other removable appliances prior to your imaging session.  Do bring all such items to your appointment as your radiographer may be required to incorporate them into your scan. It’s possible that your referring Dr. will require you to wear a special plastic stent during the scan. If you are given a guide, bring it to your appointment as we will not be able to carry out your scan without it.

  • Our office address is Suite 500 – 805 West Broadway, (West Broadway and Willow).  On-site parking is available, accessible off of Willow Street.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cone-beam Computed Tomography, or CBCT for short, is a type of low-dose CT scan that allows your provider to visualize your teeth and jaws accurately in 3-dimensions. This advanced imaging technology has markedly improved the ability to better diagnose and treat several dental and jaw problems than 2D images. Dental CBCT examinations expose you to considerably less radiation than the CT scans made in hospital settings.

The scanner rotates 360° around you in a matter of seconds. The x-ray technology is similar to the type used in panoramic machines. The images generated can be presented as 2D or 3D images.

  • A single CBCT scan provides more anatomically and dimensionally accurate information than can be obtained with traditional 2D based dental x-rays.

  • Your dentist has referred you to Orbit Imaging to obtain a CBCT study to better diagnose and treat your unique dental needs. Your dentist knows that Orbit provides:

    • Technologically advanced, low dose 3D CBCT scans.

    • Fast turnaround at competitive fees.

    • Professional, highly trained staff.

  • CBCT scanning allows your dental professional to:

    • Visualize and analyze the orientation and position of anatomical structures and pathology that cannot be viewed externally or with conventional 2D x-rays.

    • Accurately diagnose and plan individualized treatments including airway problems, dental implants and other surgical procedures.

  • CBCT scans are used for:

    • Implant planning

    • Orthodontic diagnosis and treatment

    • Sinus and airway evaluations

    • Impacted and supernumerary teeth

    • Endodontic (root canal) evaluation

    • Oral surgery and tooth removal

    • Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) analysis

    • Jaw pathology

    • Periodontal disease

  • The effective dose received from CBCT depends on the type and field of view of the scan you will receive. It typically ranges from 5 uSv to 80 uSv or approximately the equivalent of 1 to 10 days of natural background exposure. CBCT dose is similar to a standard complete dental series and far less than a medical CT.

Orbit prides itself in providing the lowest dose scanning technology available and will provide you with a fact sheet about radiation exposure upon request. Click here for more information.
